Clean Fuels Awareness (CFA) Program

The CFA Program funds initiatives that aim to close knowledge and awareness gaps around clean fuels and related technologies in Canada. It supports outreach and education efforts targeting various sectors, industries, and the general public.

Funding Amount

  • For for-profit organizations:
    • Up to 50% of total eligible project costs
    • Projects finishing before March: $50,000–$100,000
    • Projects starting before March and finishing by March of the following year: $100,000–$200,000
  • For not-for-profits and Indigenous organizations/communities:
    • Up to 75% of total eligible project costs
    • Projects finishing before March: $50,000–$150,000
    • Projects starting before March and finishing by March of the following year: $100,000–$300,000

    Eligible Applicants

    Canadian for-profit and not-for-profit organizations:

    • Utilities (electricity or gas)
    • Private companies
    • Industry and research associations
    • Standards organizations
    • Academic institutions
    • Indigenous and community organizations
    • Municipal, regional, provincial, or territorial governments and their departments

    International for-profit and not-for-profit legal entities:

    • Companies
    • Industry/research/standards associations
    • Academic institutions

    Eligible Activities

  • Creating curriculum and training resources for audiences like students, industry, and the public
  • Launching unique outreach or awareness campaigns
  • Providing professional, industry-specific training or running training hubs
  • Building online resources (e.g., websites, fact sheets, manuals, info portals)
  • Running national or regional clean fuels mentorship or ambassador programs
  • Producing best practices and educational materials for national audiences
  • Hosting in-person or virtual events such as presentations, tech demos, or workshops (with remote options available)
