Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) provides non-repayable funding to support the late-stage development and commercialization of clean technologies that contribute to Canada’s environmental goals—such as improving air, water, and soil quality and addressing climate change.
Funding is focused on projects that are close to market and demonstrates strength across technology readiness, market potential, business planning, financing, and partnerships.
Eligible expenses may include capital costs, labour, purchased goods and services, and depreciation. No repayment or equity/ownership of IP is required.
SDTC will contribute up to 40% of total project expenses, with funding ranging from $2 million to $4 million. On average, the organization covers about 33% of project costs, with the typical funding amount being approximately $3 million. Funds are distributed over a period of five years or less.
To qualify for funding, applicants must:
The program supports projects that help move cleantech solutions from development to commercialization or those that help scale up clean technologies. Funding helps companies prove their technology’s technical and financial performance, particularly by demonstrating that it can address a real customer problem and lead to an initial sale.
