- Proposed advanced and innovative technologies to be used

- Anticipated outcomes within 5-plus years

- Duration of the project (5 years with a possibility of one competing renewal)

- Specific neural systems underlying sensation, perception, emotion, motivation, cognition, decision-making, motor control, communication, or homeostasis to be studied

- Theory-/model-driven experimental design

- Predictive models to be developed as deliverables

- Methods for systematically controlling stimuli and/or behavior

- Methods for actively recording and/or manipulating relevant dynamic patterns of neural activity

- Methods for measuring resulting behaviors and/or perceptions

- Use of quantitative, mechanistic models where appropriate

- Data and analysis management plan within a prototype framework

- Justification for the use of model systems (including multiple species)

- Budget allocation for the multidisciplinary research team, including neurobiologists, statisticians, physicists, mathematicians, engineers, computer scientists, and data scientists
