List of required information for application:

1. Investigator's interest and capability to join efforts for the discovery of in vivo chemical probes for novel brain targets.

2. Starting compounds (validated hits) for chemical optimization.

3. Bioassays for testing new analog compounds.

4. Description of the proposed research plan for the discovery and development of novel, small molecules.

5. Explanation of how the proposed research is relevant to the missions of NIMH, NEI, NIAAA, NIDA, NIA, and/or NIDCD.

6. Description of the potential use of the novel, small molecules in understanding biological processes.

7. Description of how the proposed research will contribute to the discovery and/or validation of novel, biological targets related to brain disease mechanisms.

8. Explanation of how the research will provide new insight into important disease-related biological targets and biological processes.

9. Summary of the main emphasis of the project, which should be on the discovery of in vivo chemical probes.

10. If interested in developing cell-based chemical probes, applicants may consider applying using the companion R21 mechanism TEMP-8443.

CanExport SMEs

Amount of Funding

Up to 50% funding to a maximum $50,000 grant per project;
Applicants may receive up to 50% of eligible costs for up to $10,000 to $50,000 in grant funding per project;
The applicant is responsible for the remaining 50% of costs;
The annual CanExport contribution maximum is $99,999 (in the event of multiple projects approved in the same government fiscal year);
A group of related companies cannot receive >$200,000 in funding in a single fiscal year. Projects budgets should be between $20,000-100,000; and
Applicants can apply for funding multiple times as long as their prior CanExport application has been completed all reporting is finished.

CanExport SMEs

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for the CanExport program, Canadian businesses must:

Maintain 1 to <500 full-time employees;
Earn annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to $100,000,000;
Be federally incorporated federally or classified as a limited liability partnership (LLP);
Create eligible project expenses of $20,000 or more; and
Be financially stable and able to pay all project expenses not covered by the program.
