1. Applicant's name and contact information

2. Early Stage Investigator status confirmation (within 10 years of terminal degree or completion of residency training)

3. Postdoctoral experience confirmation (at least two years)

4. Title and summary of the proposed research project

5. Description of how the proposed research will use NHP models for preclinical HIV/AIDS research

6. Statement of the significance and potential impact of the proposed research

7. Research plan, including specific aims, methods, and expected outcomes

8. Budget and budget justification for the project

9. Description of how the funding will provide a degree of independence for the Early Stage Investigator

10. Statement of how the funding will position the researcher to be competitive for new research funding, such as R01 grants

11. Compliance with the priorities outlined in the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research

12. Proposed timeline for the research project

13. Description of any collaborations or partnerships that will be formed for the research project

14. Previous research experience and publications relevant to HIV/AIDS research and NHP models

15. Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume of the applicant

16. Contact information for three professional references

17. Assurance of compliance with all ethical guidelines and regulations related to the use of NHP models in research

18. Any additional supporting documents or materials that may strengthen the application

Up to 50% funding to a maximum $50,000 grant per project;
Applicants may receive up to 50% of eligible costs for up to $10,000 to $50,000 in grant funding per project;
The applicant is responsible for the remaining 50% of costs;
The annual CanExport contribution maximum is $99,999 (in the event of multiple projects approved in the same government fiscal year);
A group of related companies cannot receive >$200,000 in funding in a single fiscal year. Projects budgets should be between $20,000-100,000; and
Applicants can apply for funding multiple times as long as their prior CanExport application has been completed all reporting is finished.

To be eligible for the CanExport program, Canadian businesses must:

Maintain 1 to <500 full-time employees;
Earn annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to $100,000,000;
Be federally incorporated federally or classified as a limited liability partnership (LLP);
Create eligible project expenses of $20,000 or more; and
Be financially stable and able to pay all project expenses not covered by the program.
