1. Title of the proposed project

2. Research and scientific premise justifying the need for further clinical testing of the natural product

3. Description of the natural product being studied (botanicals, dietary supplements, or probiotics)

4. Detailed study design, including interventions, outcome measures, and participant population

5. Justification for the chosen biological signature(s) and their relevance to functional or clinical outcomes in the patient population

6. Plans to replicate the impact of the natural product on the biological signature(s) in humans

7. Strategies to optimize the delivery of the natural product, such as examining different doses or formulations

8. Potential combination of the natural product with another treatment approach known to impact the same biological signature

9. Target population selection and rationale for their responsiveness to the natural product

10. Hypotheses to be tested and milestones to be achieved in the proposed clinical trial

11. Alignment of the proposed research with the research priorities and mission of NCCIH

12. Description of how the proposed project will accelerate the translation of emerging basic science findings into early stage clinical testing

13. Statement confirming that the proposed trial is not an efficacy or effectiveness trial, nor a trial for cancer treatment or prevention.

Up to 50% funding to a maximum $50,000 grant per project;
Applicants may receive up to 50% of eligible costs for up to $10,000 to $50,000 in grant funding per project;
The applicant is responsible for the remaining 50% of costs;
The annual CanExport contribution maximum is $99,999 (in the event of multiple projects approved in the same government fiscal year);
A group of related companies cannot receive >$200,000 in funding in a single fiscal year. Projects budgets should be between $20,000-100,000; and
Applicants can apply for funding multiple times as long as their prior CanExport application has been completed all reporting is finished.

To be eligible for the CanExport program, Canadian businesses must:

Maintain 1 to <500 full-time employees;
Earn annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to $100,000,000;
Be federally incorporated federally or classified as a limited liability partnership (LLP);
Create eligible project expenses of $20,000 or more; and
Be financially stable and able to pay all project expenses not covered by the program.
