To apply for the NHLBI Emerging Investigator Award (EIA), applicants will need to provide the following information:

1. Name of the Program Director/Principal Investigator (PD/PI) who will be the main recipient of the award.

2. Current active NHLBI R01-equivalent grants on which the PD/PI is listed as the primary investigator.

3. Description of the PD/PI's outstanding record of research and demonstrated ability to make major contributions to heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) research.

4. Description of the research program that will be supported by the EIA, including the goals, objectives, and overall impact on the field of HLBS research.

5. Plan for how the EIA funds will be allocated and used in the research program.

6. Justification for why the EIA is necessary and how it will provide increased flexibility and long-term support for the PD/PI's research.

7. Explanation of how the EIA will enable the PD/PI to break new ground, extend previous discoveries, take greater risks, and pursue research with a longer timeframe.

8. Assurance that the research supported by the EIA will be within the scope of the NHLBI mission.

9. Budget proposal detailing the anticipated costs and funding needs for the research program.

10. Any additional supporting documentation, such as letters of recommendation or collaboration agreements, that may strengthen the application.

CanExport SMEs

Amount of Funding

Up to 50% funding to a maximum $50,000 grant per project;
Applicants may receive up to 50% of eligible costs for up to $10,000 to $50,000 in grant funding per project;
The applicant is responsible for the remaining 50% of costs;
The annual CanExport contribution maximum is $99,999 (in the event of multiple projects approved in the same government fiscal year);
A group of related companies cannot receive >$200,000 in funding in a single fiscal year. Projects budgets should be between $20,000-100,000; and
Applicants can apply for funding multiple times as long as their prior CanExport application has been completed all reporting is finished.

CanExport SMEs

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for the CanExport program, Canadian businesses must:

Maintain 1 to <500 full-time employees;
Earn annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to $100,000,000;
Be federally incorporated federally or classified as a limited liability partnership (LLP);
Create eligible project expenses of $20,000 or more; and
Be financially stable and able to pay all project expenses not covered by the program.
