Operating Grant: Clinical Trials Projects

  1. Identify Participants and Proposal Summary: List only Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) in "Identify Participants", others can be added later. NPA uploads CV. Canadian academics use CIHR Biosketch, others use Applicant Profile CV. For Indigenous NGO, include mandate, eligibility info in Applicant Profile CV. Use CCV for CV submission, upload Applicant Profile CV. LOI doesn't require CVs for others.
  2. Proposal Formatting and Content: LOI follows formatting, page limits: English: 2 pages, French: 3 pages. Include NPA name, institution, project title, research area alignment. Summarize scope, trial phase, study design, interventions, outcomes. French proposals allow extra pages.
  3. Peer Review Suggestions: Suggest suitable reviewers, CIHR reserves final selection. Avoid conflict of interest, refer to CIHR guidelines. 
  4. Access Delegation and Signature Pages: NPA can delegate up to 5 individuals for help. Delegation doesn't carry between stages. Signatures needed for applicants except Collaborators. Upload signed pages and Routing Slip via ResearchNet.
  5. Participant Information and CVs: List participants, ensure eligibility. Canadian academics use CIHR Biosketch, others use Applicant Profile CV. Indigenous participants describe relevance in Applicant Profile CV. Use CCV for CV submission, upload Applicant Profile CV. Don't need CVs for Collaborators.
  6. Proposal Content and Length: Research Proposal covers evaluation criteria. Page limits: English: 10 pages, French: 12 pages. Attach references, charts, etc. under "Research Proposal Appendix".
  7. Research Proposal Summary: Describe trial's alignment with BLSS objectives. Link to previous BLSS elements, related projects.
  8. Budget Details and Justification: Detail budget for planned activities. Provide justifications, add supporting documents if needed. For release time requests, include certifying letter.
  9. Attach Additional Materials: Upload plans: Personnel Development, Data Management, Knowledge Mobilization. Attach SGBA Certificate for NPA. Provide Indirect Costs Management letter. Describe Applicant Partners' roles and COI. Include Indigenous self-identification statement if applicable. Provide a Participant Table with roles and expertise. Optionally, list relevant publications. Encourage letters of support and collaborations, as needed.
  10. Peer Review Suggestions (Again): Suggest suitable reviewers while avoiding conflicts of interest.
  11. Access Delegation and Signature Pages (Again): NPA can delegate up to 5 individuals for support. Delegation doesn't carry between competition stages. Revoke delegate access as needed.
  12. Print/Upload Signature Pages: No NPA signature needed for ResearchNet submissions. Include signatures for other applicants and signing authority. Upload scanned signed pages and Routing Slip on ResearchNet.
