Operating Grant: Evaluation of Dementia Programs, Services, & Care Models

  1. Identifying Project Participants - In this step, list all project participants under "Identify Participants." While the Nominated Principal Applicant must remain consistent between Registration and Application stages, other participants can change roles or be added/removed. CVs are not needed during registration.
  2. Proposal Information Entry - This task gathers research project-related details. Complete the Overview, Details, and Descriptors sections. Present a summarized version of your research proposal (1 page). This summary serves for relevance review and reviewer selection.
  3. Peer Review Administration (Optional) - Provide potential Canadian/international reviewers' suggestions, although CIHR makes the final choice. Avoid suggesting reviewers with conflicts of interest, referring to CIHR guidelines.
  4. Priority Announcements/Funding Pools (Optional) - You have the choice to apply to funding pools. Select the Stream title and relevant Research Area, with the option for up to three choices.
  5. Access Management (Optional) - The Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) can assign access to five individuals for application support, with no carryover between stages.
  6. Identifying Participants (Revisited) - List all participants following eligibility requirements, including partners, in the Participant Table below "Attach Other Application Materials."
  7. CV Submission and Details - Participants must submit CVs based on the following criteria: Canadian academic applicants: CIHR Biosketch CV; Knowledge users, non-academics, Indigenous orgs, international applicants; CIHR Biosketch CV or Applicant Profile CV; Indigenous NPA requirement: Include org description in Applicant Profile CV. Relevant experience participants; Describe their experience in Applicant Profile CV; Indigenous Elders/Knowledge Keepers Collaborator CVs: Uploaded under "Other"
  8. Proposal Description - The Research Proposal must thoroughly address each evaluation criteria element, possibly using evaluation criteria headings. Existing program/service/model descriptions are favored over new developments. French proposals have extended page limits to accommodate language differences.
  9. Summary of Research Proposal - The proposal summary (1 page) must highlight alignment with the funding opportunity objectives.
  10. Budget Justification - A detailed budget justification, including coverage of intervention costs and cash equivalents. For release time allowance requests, include a supporting letter from the organization.
  11. Attachment of Additional Materials - Attach various documents, such as Knowledge Mobilization and Dissemination Plan, Capacity Building Plan, SGBA Certificate, Indigenous Experience details, Conflict of Interest Considerations, Participant Table, Support Letters, and Collaboration Letters, following specific labeling instructions.
  12. Identifying Application Partners - Partner Information Upload (Mandatory)
  13. Peer Review Administration Information (Mandatory) - Applicants can propose potential reviewers.
  14. Applying to Priority Announcements/Funding Pools - Choose a Stream and relevant Research Areas for the application, providing descriptions for relevancy.
  15. Access Management (Optional) - Revisited - NPAs can assign access, with no carryover.
  16. Print/Upload Signature Pages - Obtain signatures from applicants and authorized representatives. Upload signed pages and the Routing Slip on ResearchNet before submission.
