Operating Grant: Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR)

  1. Identifying Participants - List all participants in the "Identify Participants" task, adhering to eligibility. All participants must submit a CV (except collaborators). Canadian academic applicants must provide a CIHR Biosketch CV. Knowledge users, non-academics, Indigenous organizations, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and international applicants can choose either a CIHR Biosketch CV or Applicant Profile CV (max three pages). Applicant Profile CV must include 5-10 expertise keywords, summary of knowledge/education, affiliations, experience, and pertinent role info. NPA categories involving Indigenous non-governmental organizations must include the organization's description in Applicant Profile CV.
  2. Proposal Information Entry - The Research Proposal should cover evaluation criteria, research dynamics, objectives, approaches, and a 5-year plan with programs, activities, and milestones. If applying for NEIHR Coordinating Centre renewal, see instructions in the task "Attach Other Application Materials" below. French proposals can submit extra pages, capped at 20 pages for English and 24 pages for French. References, charts, tables, figures, and photos can be uploaded under "Attachments – Research Proposal Appendix."
  3. Budget Information Entry - Details in 'Financial Assistance Requested' must span the full 5 years. Justify budget items for research activities, personnel costs, student salaries, travel, and more. Include all revenue sources, distinguish CIHR and other-source costs, and allocate an extra 100K/year for Indigenous health research trainee capacity. Additional supporting documents can be attached, including quotes. For release time allowances, upload a letter certifying eligibility.
  4. Attachment of Other Materials - Under "Other," upload the following: Progress report: Summarize major activities, achievements, and milestones in the first NEIHR grant cycle (max two pages); Certificate of Completion for sex and gender-based analysis training modules; Governance Structure document: Describe governance structure addressing criteria (max two pages); Applicant Partner COI Document (if applicable): Role descriptions, contribution, and risk/conflits (max 1 page); NEIHR Coordinating Centre applicants: Attach a max four-page proposal addressing evaluation criteria and a budget justification; Participant table: List applicants (including Collaborators), roles, and identify designated members; Optional Letters of Support: Encouraged for quality enhancement, may include partner contributions.
  5. Download Supplemental Application Material - NPA must complete and upload Indigenous self-declaration form.
  6. Peer Review Administration (Optional) - Suggest suitable reviewers for peer review.
  7. Apply to Priority Announcements / Funding Pools - Select NEIHR centre's base area and consider the NEIHR Coordinating Centre pool.
  8. Access Management (Optional) - NPA can delegate access to five individuals. Delegation doesn't continue between stages.
  9. Print/Upload Signature Pages - Signature requirements: Nominated Principal Applicant's signature not needed for ResearchNet submissions. Include signatures for other applicants (except Collaborators) and individuals with authority. Upload scanned signed pages and the Routing Slip in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task.
