The aim of this funding opportunity is to support the continuation of the SEA to network existing evidence synthesis expertise across the country and maintain a coordinated system composed of specialized teams across Canada with expertise and capacity to carry out knowledge synthesis, guideline development and knowledge mobilization on a wide variety of health topics involving patients and communities. The SEA will continue to advance research excellence through the continued and meaningful integration of patients and communities into their work as well as collaboration with Indigenous Peoples to advance the science of conducting knowledge synthesis following Indigenous ways of knowing and doing.

Eligible Applicants

This funding renewal is exclusively available to the Nominated Principal Investigator (NPI) of the SPOR Evidence Alliance (SEA) while meeting original eligibility criteria. The NPI must be based in Canada throughout the grant term. The application necessitates at least two Early Career Researchers (ECRs) as Principal Applicants (PAs) and inclusion of specific team members: a patient, an Indigenous member with cultural engagement, an Indigenous Elder/Knowledge Keeper/NGO representative. Additionally, the team should designate an Indigenous Research Champion, Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis + (SGBA+) Champion, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Champion. All Champions and the NPI must complete relevant sex- and gender-based analysis training modules and submit certificates of completion.

Eligible Activities

The application must incorporate all the following key design elements: Patient and Community Engagement, Pan-Canadian Representation, International Linkages, Knowledge Mobilization, Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis), Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis + (SGBA+), Community-Centred Research Approaches, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

CanExport SMEs

Amount of Funding

Up to 50% funding to a maximum $50,000 grant per project;
Applicants may receive up to 50% of eligible costs for up to $10,000 to $50,000 in grant funding per project;
The applicant is responsible for the remaining 50% of costs;
The annual CanExport contribution maximum is $99,999 (in the event of multiple projects approved in the same government fiscal year);
A group of related companies cannot receive >$200,000 in funding in a single fiscal year. Projects budgets should be between $20,000-100,000; and
Applicants can apply for funding multiple times as long as their prior CanExport application has been completed all reporting is finished.

CanExport SMEs

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for the CanExport program, Canadian businesses must:

Maintain 1 to <500 full-time employees;
Earn annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to $100,000,000;
Be federally incorporated federally or classified as a limited liability partnership (LLP);
Create eligible project expenses of $20,000 or more; and
Be financially stable and able to pay all project expenses not covered by the program.

Patient-Oriented Research (POR), which is foundational to evidence-informed health care, refers to a continuum of research that engages patients, including People with Lived/Living Experience (PWLE), as partners throughout the research process, focuses on patient-identified priorities, and improves patient outcomes. This research, conducted by multidisciplinary teams in partnership with relevant stakeholders, aims to apply the knowledge generated to improve health outcomes for Canadians.The Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) is a national coalition of federal, provincial and territorial partners (patients and informal caregivers, health authorities, academic health centres, charities, philanthropic organizations, private sector, etc.) dedicated to the integration of patient-oriented research into care. SPOR-funded research requires the inclusion of a diversity of patients (including PWLE) in health research in culturally safe, equitable and accessible ways.The vision for SPOR is that Canada will demonstrably improve health outcomes and enhance the health care experience for patients through the integration of evidence at all levels of the health care system.The SPOR Evidence Alliance (SEA) was established in 2017 to support the national coordination and project management of systematic reviews and guidelines development, including the training and capacity development necessary to develop guidelines.
