Small Business Innovation Research/ Small Business Technology Transfer Program Phase I

  1. Business Information: Legal name of your company, Business address, Contact information(phone number, email address), Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), DUNS number (Dun & Bradstreet number) - if you don't have one, you can obtain it for free from Dun & Bradstreet's website
  2. Ownership and Certifications: Provide information on the ownership structure of the company, including the names and percentages of ownership for each owner. If applicable, provide information about any certifications your business holds, such as minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, or disadvantaged business certifications.
  3. Principal Investigator: Identify the principal investigator (PI) for the project. The PI is typically the primary researcher or technologist responsible for leading the project. Provide their name, contact information, and a summary of their qualifications and expertise related to the project.
  4. Research Proposal: Develop a research proposal that outlines the objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes of the project. Describe the technical approach, timeline, and resources required for successful completion. Include a statement describing the innovative nature of the proposed research and how it aligns with the specific agency's mission and SBIR/STTR program goals.
  5. Commercialization Plan: Describe your plan for commercializing the research results and bringing the technology or product to market. This should include information on potential customers, competitors, market size, and distribution strategies.
  6. Budget and Financial Information: Prepare a budget for the proposed project, detailing the estimated costs for personnel, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and any other expenses. Provide financial statements, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to demonstrate your company's financial stability and capacity to carry out the project.
  7. Intellectual Property: Indicate whether your company has any existing intellectual property (IP) rights related to the proposed project. If so, provide details about the IP, including patents, copyrights, or trademarks.
  8. Agency-Specific Requirements: Each agency participating in the SBIR/STTR programs may have specific requirements or forms that need to be completed. Familiarize yourself with the agency's guidelines and follow their instructions for submission.
